Early morning summer ramblings

The last time I updated was...April. So, because I feel slightly guilty about my lack of updates and the fact that I have a crap memory, I feel like I should write an entry about my summer so far.
It started out well. I hung out with friends, worked on collages, went to Austin for State competition, watched Up after a birthday party (which included a Star Trek cake. YAY.), went to UT orientation (busy tiring busy), had a fantabulous day at Kemah and read lots of fanfiction.
After that, it went downhill for a bit and I had a monotonous second half of June. I stayed home, ate pizza rolls EVERY FRICKIN' DAY, got addicted to BtVS (to the point of watching it until 5 in the morning lol).  I don't have a job, I didn't volunteer, I didn't study anything, and I didn't even pack/clean my room for college. I feel so behind and unproductive. It seems like everyone is working in a lab or have a job. All I've been doing is lazing around and sleeping (for like 10 hours a day). I've got the weird sentiment that this is the LAST summer for me to be carefree. Y'know, before worrying about internships, jobs, and other grownup responsibilities. It's like this is the last summer for me to be a kid.
At least I got some dorm shopping done and made a nifty excel sheet to share with my roommates about what items to bring. And, I'm 2/3 done with my goal.

I ALSO FINISHED MY SENIOR VIDEO WHICH I PLANNED SINCE SOPHOMORE YEAR!!! :D

I accidentally came across my AP scores on the UT website and they were awful. I'm truly living up to my name, Mediocrity. heh. After a fun 4th of July party at Spencer's and Harold's and Miller Outdoor Theater (I <3 1812 Overture, cannons were also very cool), I slept over at Mel's with Claire and Kayla and had a Buffy marathon. And gorged my- I mean, ourselves, on oreos, icecream, popcorn, girl scout cookies, and more oreos. The next day, I went shopping at the Gap with Mel and bought a shirt for $2.99. Score! I think I shall repeat another marathon, this time with Star Trek. :)
July 9th I went to Houston Symphony's Star Trek/Sci-fi show. IT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME. I went with Liz, Claire, Sachin, my mom, my brother, Eric, Dennis, Kaili, and Lindsay. Costume contest was cool, the use of those twirly plastic  pipes was comically appropriate. Did I say the conductor dressed up as Spock? That totally got him infinity cool points.

July 11th was both sucky and good. After buying a birthday present for Kelbings, I got pulled over by a Bellaire cop like one block away from my house. At first, I didn't even know he was flashing his lights at me. I didn't do anything wrong, so I kept driving. lol. He finally sounded his siren and I pulled over. To say I was scared would be an understatement. This was my first "offense" and I had no idea why I got pulled over. He told me (rudely) that my registration was expired and to hand him my license and insurance. And then he mumbled something about license plates. I don't know, he was being purposely vague. I guess BPD like bullying young drivers so they can get money out of unsuspecting innocent kids. When he saw me pull my phone out, he told me not to call my parents because that would "cause a scene". Wtf? Is he even allowed to do that? Then, he promptly returned to his car to write my ticket. While he was doing so, I called my dad and started freaking out. I mean, why did he pull me over? My dad told me he just updated the registration ticket and to stay where I was and he'd come over. When the cop came back with my ticket, I pointed out that my registration was up to date and that the sticker said 2010. He was silent for a moment, then wrote some more stuff on my ticket. He tried to cover up his error by saying it "wasn't in the system yet" and then spotted my inspection sticker. Unfortunately, my inspection sticker was expired. I didn't even know! I only drove the car a few times this summer and never noticed it. When my dad got to the scene, the cop immediately sped away. Jerk.
The court date is set on a day where I'm not even going to be in the country. He didn't give me any info and I don't even know how much I'm going to be charged. Maybe the cop purposely targeted my car because it's crappy looking. ARGH! Now I get why so many people dislike Bellaire police. I guess it's that time of month where they need to fill their ticket quota.
Anyway, for Kelbing's birthday, we watched Bruno. My eyes shall forever be scarred!! There was so much graphic nudity. I feel so violated and dirty, it was like watching porno. Oh well, at least some parts were funny. Afterward, we all silently and awkwardly left the theater. I think we all had the same silly expressions on our faces. A couple of cops were sitting outside gauging our reactions and laughing at how disgusted we looked. lol. After that, we went to Kelbing's house, where she had tons of preparations/ingredients for making pizza! It was all homemade and freshly prepared. And my pizza and dessert pizza were delicious. :)
So now, I'm sitting at home typing an lj entry.

I think I'll go watch Star Trek DS9 with my brother right now.

Xanga

I was reminiscing and reading my old Xanga posts...and damn! I used to be funny and stupid. As Mr. Phillips would say when seeing my 2nd six weeks Pre-Calculus grade, "What happened?"

I really don't want to go to school any time soon. It's like walking into the Colosseum and meeting two lions, Calculus BC and Physics.

What a waste of a post.

Wanna know what's really sad? I just figured out how to change my userpic. haha

Oh, and I attempted to make my lj friends-only because, y'know, I'm paranoid.

Standardized Testing, The Historian, and BTAS

I have this very terrible problem. I have horrible test anxiety. It's so bad that I get insomnia the night before the test and end up taking the test the next morning as an animated corpse. Practically brain-dead. It probably stems from the fact that I barely ever study for tests (another major problem), so I pathetically lie in bed, worrying about the test(s) and employing such techniques like counting sheep to compel my befuddled brain to go to sleep. I mean, I could have spent the time studying instead, but no, I'm just too gosh darn lazy.
So I got back my ACT and SAT II scores. I was pleasantly surprised by the scores, but they weren't remarkable...just better than expected. It's just...I'm a little disappointed in myself. I could have studied or taken practice tests, or at the very least, get one hour of sleep beforehand, but I didn't. Who knew how much more my score might have improved? But that's all in the past. I just hope the past will be competent enough for the future.

When all's said and done, I probably won't be retaking them because 1.) I'm lazy and 2.) I'm adequately satisfied with my scores. Should I be spending my time asking "what-ifs?"

Hopefully for the rest of this summer I won't be avoiding this like the plague.

Btw, I ended up being disappointed with The Historian. The ending was an extreme anticlimax moment. *Spoilers ahead* Sort of like Voldemort's death (not really a spoiler). Anyway, the main motive of Dracula kidnapping the professor in the beginning was that *dun dun dun* he wanted the professor to catalogue his library! Talk about a weak plot! I expected something a wee bit more diabolical ya know? I mean, I enjoyed the book for the historical insight it provided and unique diction, but the final "fight" scene was a joke! Dracula says to the main characters something along the lines of "come with me" and then he gets shot out of nowhere and swivels this way and that and then dies. This highly anticipated ending did not really meet my standards. It's still a good book and I enjoyed the ride and mystery of the plot, but in the end, I was left feeling unsatisfied.

My new addiction? Batman the Animated Series. lol. I love its film-noir style and artistry. Did I mention that the music is phenomenal? Man, I miss the cartoons of the 90's. They actually had good plots and played on a wide range of emotion. Batman the Animated Series (not to be confused with other Batman cartoons) was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid and I still appreciate it now as a teenager. It contains a lot of "adult" content not present in modern day kids cartoons like the exploration of human nature and psyche. And Joker is absolutely my favorite villain. Who knew Luke Skywalker could do the perfect Joker voice? Haha!

Writer's Block: Choose a Power

If you could have the power to fly, be invisible, or teleport anywhere, which would you choose?

Teleport. Definitely.

Taken from Ann's lj. I like your reasons for why you chose teleport. And don't worry, my conversation of the day reeks of loser.

Conversation of the Day (via facebook walls)

Ruobing: wb
Me: wb? As in a weber...the unit of magnetic flux??
Ruobing: ............................................. welcome back

lol

I seriously didn't know what "wb" stood for. I guessed it might've had something to do with electricity because my profile picture was me touching one of those glass balls full of gasses and electrons. Why I didn't think about "welcome back" (I got back from Scotland a few days ago) is beyond me.

Speaking of Scotland, it was great! I absolutely loved it and the Highlands were my vision of paradise materialized. The museums were terrific. The people were incredibly friendly. Pictures may or may not come. I have a lot that I have to sort through. I'll most likely make an album on facebook.
